Police Debunk Report Of Bribe Seeking Policeman Who Shot Dead Motorcyclist In Ibadan.



The Oyo state commissioner of police, Shina Olukolu has described the report that a bribe seeking policeman shot dead an unidentified commercial motorcyclist as false.

The commissioner, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, Lawrence Fadeyi, said the truth of the matter is, a 6-man police patrol team from Alakia-Adelubi Division stopped a suspected motorcyclist with an unusual passenger of four but refused and proceeded. In the process, armed sentry man, Sargent Sunday Ogunkanmi, fired and hit the rider on the left elbow hence, he was hospitalized.

The CP noted that the motorcyclist, Sule Ikuforiji, is alive and actively responding to treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.

He, however, disclosed that, one of the mobs who without proper knowledge of the incident from the onset, marched to Alakia-Adelubi Division and set ablaze part of it was unfortunately hit and lost his life in the process.

Meanwhile, the sergeant concerned, Sunday Ogunkanmi, is in custody while the matter is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CP, assured the members of the public that the matter is receiving deserved attention while the command will not relent in performing its constitutional responsibilities at protecting life and property of the good people of Oyo state.
