Nigerian Army 2 Division, Ibadan Dispel Allege Casualties Resulting From Stray Bullets From Shooting Range Exercises.



The Headquarters 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan has dispel recent allegation leveled against it and the Nigerian Army in general by some residents of Ajobo, Omilabu, Idiomo, Anilelerin, Keda and Oluseyi Communities situated along Arulogun_Igbo-Oloyin road.

The outgoing General Officer Commanding, GOC, Headquarters 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Okwudili Azinta, on Monday, disclaimed the accusation during a press briefing held at the division conference room, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan.

The allegation which center on threats to lives and damages of property occasioned by projectiles landing on the houses anytime the Division conducts shooting exercises was discredited by the GOC.

While giving facts against fiction, The GOC stated that the Nigerian Army acquired 7,200 acres of land for the cantonment in 1974 a gazette which proved that the communities inhabiting the aforementioned places are wide apart from the land boundary.




Major Genera Azinta also affirmed to the general public that the claims by the residents are being orchestrated by land speculators who have the ultimate aim of compelling the Nigerian Army to relinquish the portion of the land.


He, however, stressed that  The Army Public Relations Department of the Division do conduct an enlightenment campaign in the adjoining communities prior to the conduct of any shooting activities.

Naija TODAY News, reported that, Residents of Arulogun and other suburbs of Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital had on the 22nd June, 2019 protested against the continued use of their villages and settlements as location for the Nigerian Army Shooting range.

The protesting residents in Ibadan, claimed that there had been reported cases of casualties resulting from stray bullets from the shooting range exercises.
