Oyo State is Technically Bankrupt" Says - Gov. Makinde




The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday said Oyo State became one of the bankrupt states in Nigeria by architect of misfortune that left the state in a financial jeopardy.

The governor stated this while receiving the University of Ibadan Governing council, where he maintained that technically the government of Oyo state is bankrupt and if he was to take it as a private entity, he won't lend a dime to the state.


Expressing the government's readiness to collaborate with the University especially in the area of Public Private Partnership (PPP); Governor Makinde described the abandoned Agbowo Shopping Complex as an eye-sore to the University of Ibadan and a security threat to the University community.

Therefore, he will make a pronouncement within his 100 days in office on how he intend to turn the shopping complex into a revenue hub.


In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Ibadan, Nde Waklek Joshua Mutka, explained that the visit is a way of showing the University's Solidarity and loyalty to the new government and enjoined Governor Makinde not to relent in his effort at assisting the University in the area of infrastructural development and maintenance.


Present at the gathering were: the deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan;  Chief of Staff to the governor, Bisi Ilaka; Head of Service, Mrs. Amidat Agboola; chairman committee, Oyo state Advisory Council, Senator Hosea Agboola; Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran.
