Oyo Pensioners Ask Gov. Makinde To Declare A State Of Emergency On Pension Scheme.


 

The Oyo State Pensioners have called on the Government of the state led by Engineer Oluseyi Makinde to look into the whooping sum of #62.5billion owed by Governor Ajimobi led administration over the period of 8-56 months.

The Union made the call this Wednesday, during a Solidarity Rally to Governor Makinde's Office where they lament that Oyo State Pensioners particularly retired Primary School Teachers have become endangered species as a result of overdue unpaid pensions and gratuities and asked the governor to declare a state of emergency on the state pension scheme.

The State Union Secretary, Olusegun Abatan, who regretted to inform the governor that - May, 2018 pension was the one that the governor signed its payment some days ago while over 17 months are still unpaid,  appealed to the governor to take a pro-active step and bury the incubus of the past administration as regards payment of pension in percentages to retired primary school teachers  and local government pensioners.

In his response, Governor Makinde acknowledge that, The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, is a reservoir of men and women of skills and most be treated with respect.

The governor, however, explained that, the allocation received from the federal government per month is #4.5billion while the state internal generated revenue in a month is #2billion and the state workers salaries, pension and gratuities is a whooping sum of #5.5billion. Enjoined the pensioners to bear with the state government for sometimes as the government will try all within its power to return retire workers to that glorious era when gratuities are paid promptly.
