INSECURITY: Oyo Assembly Calls for More Border Surveillance.



With the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria, the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has called for increase border surveillance and patrol to reduce the number of foreigners and migrants entering the country illegally.

Hon Ogundoyin noted that most of the high profile crimes are allegedly linked to some foreigners hence he harped on the vital need for Nigerian Immigration Service to do more in controlling the number of persons entering and leaving the country.

The Speaker stated this while addressing the Comptroller, Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo state command, Saleh Abdullah when he led other lawmakers on a visit to the Agodi office of the command.

He stressed that the Oyo state Governor was keen in securing the lives and properties of the residents of the state adding that the lawmakers too are ready to complement the efforts of the executive arm of Government and work with all security agencies to achieve a safer and secured environment.

The Speaker who said no investment can thrive in an unsecured environment advised the officers of NIS to beam their searchlight on already identified flashpoints and other areas to further secure the nation's borders adjudged as highly porous.

The Comptroller, Saleh Abdullah said his officers will not relent in ensuring border patrol while stressing that the Nigerian Immigration Service has been working with other security agencies to secure all border entries into the state

The Comptroller particularly mentioned border communities in Saki,Iseyin,Okerete,Ayegun and Wasinmi in Okeogun area of Oyo state where his officers mount regular patrol.

He announced that in order to ease the duty of the NIS to issue travel documents to bonafide Nigerians and residence permits to foreigners , the Service has launched a E-registration process and assured that it will be opened in each of the local Govt office of the Command.

The Comptroller used the medium to warn Nigerians against employing house helps as most of them who are foreigners are trafficked.

Comptroller Abdullah said the activities of his officers in Okeogun area of Oyo state are hindered by members of the host communities who conspired with illegal immigrants to get into the state through diversionary routes.

Other lawmakers who spoke during the meeting especially the deputy Speaker ,Hon Sbiodun Fadeyi urgerd the NIS to.pay particular attention to Fulani migrants and other foreigners who come into the state to perpetrate crime and terrorize the residents
