Oyo Lawmaker(Babajide) Urges Gov Seyi Makinde On Renovation of Agbowo Shopping Complex.


The lawmaker representing Ib North state constituency II at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebayo Babajide has called the attention of the executive governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde to the dilapidated state of Agbowo Shopping Complex and urges the executive governor for Quick Intervention on immediate rehabilitation and Renovation of the Agbowo Shopping complex.

Hon Babajide said this while presenting a motion at the floor of the house tittle "Evaluation and Immediate Renovation Of Agbowo Shopping Complex in order to boost the Internal Generated Revenue(IGR) of Oyo State". He called the attention of the executive and the house to the damages and economical effects of the total neglect and abandonment of the Agbowo Shopping Complex which was constructed by the Oyo State government in 1984 and fully owned by the state government and managed by the Housing Corporation of Oyo State.

He noted that, the past government has come and gone without taking full responsibility and paying critical attention to the immense benefits and economic boost which Agbowo Shopping complex might bring to the State.

He said In 2012,The immediate Past administration made a move to renovate the complex but till date, nothing has been done thereby, making Agbowo Shopping Complex to be in a rotten, unkept and unattended to.


"It will interest this great House that when I was growing up as a child, having been born in Agbowo which host this Complex, The Agbowo Shopping complex was a lively,sight to see and interesting place to be, It has the prestigious 'Cinema De Baba Sala' , Business hub which contain about three hundred shops, A large car park and a High rise Building with so many Office Spaces and A lot of Side attractions. So to see this beautiful asset in this dilapidated state, It saddens my heart.

Whereas, This aforementioned Infrastructure can generate a lot of Internal Revenue for the state and provide job opportunities for the good people of Oyo State whose interest we seek and the reason we are all here and we must protect it.


Speaking after the contributions of the lawmakers, on resolution, the speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin stated that the location of the complex is lucrative, being located in a university environment, where it can serve vast community of people.

Ogundoyin said that the lawmakers are requesting from the executive through the Oyo State housing corporation to forward to the house of assembly a comprehensive report of the status of facilities and activities within Agbowo shopping complex, from 2011 till date.

Also mandate it for housing cooperation to meet with house committee on land and housing for further deliberation.

"We're now use this opportunity to seek for the  Intervention of Oyo State government led by Engr Seyi Makinde to consider partnering with consultants and other stakeholders with a view to renovating and upgrading facilities in the complex so as to make it functional.

And also put necessary measures in place for the evaluation, renovation and upgrading of Agbowo Shopping Complex in other to improve internally generated revenue of Oyo State and to provide job opportunities for the citizenry.
