Oyo Speaker solicits Police support towards curbing insecurity.



The Speaker Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin says adequate security of lives and property of the citizenry in the state remains in the front burner of Governor Seyi Makinde's administration hence the Speaker solicited the support of the state Police Command towards having a crime free and peaceful society.

Hon Ogundoyin spoke when he led other members of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly on a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Shina Olukolu at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan.

The Speaker noted that the pockets of crime in some parts of Oyo State especially cases of kidnapping , farmers/herders clashes and armed robbery among others in some parts of the state should not be allowed to degenerate into full blown crises and urged the Police Boss to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a holistic approach to tackling insecurity in the state..

He specifically mentioned the incessant cases of gang violence at Idi Arere, Foko and Born Photo area of Ibadan South West Local Govt and requested for a Police post or the establishment of a Divisional Police Office in the area to arrest the situation.

Hon Ogundoyin assured the Police Commissioner of the readiness of Oyo lawmakers to make and review laws that will enhance the activities of the Security agencies in the state while also.promising that the legislative house will give necessary logistic support to the Police Force in the. State to create a safer and more secured environment.

While appreciating the visit of the Speaker, CP Olukolu maintained that police remain the leading agency in addressing internal security in the country and stressed that policing is a collective responsibility of everyone in a particular society..

The Commissioner said issues of herders clashes and kidnapping are mostly associated with Fulanis, he however added that crime is not a speciality of a particular tribe or race..

He said it was the duty of every law abiding citizen to give genuine and useful information to the police to reduce crime to the barest minimum.

CP Olukolu identified lack of enough Armoured Police Carriers, ICT equipment and other logistics as well as inadequate personnel as some of the major challenges of the Police force in the state.

On the issue of some crises in Ibadan South West local Govt the Police Commissioner said the Force will establish a Divisional Police Office in the area if the conditions for such are met and approval sought from the Police Headquarters Abuja.
