The Oyo State House of Assembly has called of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to take urgent steps towards the completion of the Oyo -Ogbomoso expressway, describing the road as dead-trap taking people’s lives and properties at will.

Describing security of lives and properties as the most crucial responsibility of the government, the Majority leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin representing Ogbomoso South State constituency while speaking on the motion jointly moved with his colleague, Hon. Wunmi Oladeji representing Ogbomoso North state constituency, noted that the state of Oyo- Ogbomoso road is so terrible that travelers cannot predict safe arrival to their destination, not to talk of possible travel time.

Adedoyin emphasized that the countless lives that have been lost to the road which is the only link to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital makes the completion of the dualize route inevitable.

He said, “It is sadden how people frequently lost their lives and properties untimely to the 51 kilometers Oyo- Ogbomoso road which the dualization of its expressway has being commissioned by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo since 1999 and the situation still remain the same twenty years after.

“Oyo to Ogbomoso which suppose take an hour travel in all right sense, now takes several hours or even days. No thanks to the terrible state of the road, complimented my frequent trailers’ and/or long vehicle accidents on the road.

“The road has also inflicted deformity injuries on people and impoverish traders and farmers who lost their goods or harvest in transit.”

Making comments on the resolution of the lawmakers, the Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin noted that though the road is a federal project, however it concerns the Oyo lawmakers because its connects two major geographical zones in the State.

“We want FERMA and other stakeholders to do everything possible to mobilise contractor(s) and give all necessary supports to complete the 20year old dualized expressway.

“On the other hand, we want the Federal Roads Safety Commissions, FRSC to also be up to it tasks in creating caution signals at every accident scenes and timely rescue of victims,” he added.
