Senator representing Oyo Central at the Senate, Teslim Folarin has said it was unnecessary to subject former governors and those who have served in the Senate to what he called painful screening. He said this is because they deserve respect and honour, having been entrusted with huge responsibilities in the past. The screening of ministerial nominees, including some former governors and senators by the Ninth Senate has generated mixed reactions. Some Nigerians have criticized the current Senate for allegedly being an “executive rubber stamp” on 17 ministerial nominees. The 17 ministerial nominees were said to have been treated with special favour when they were asked to take a bow and go, without passing through thorough screening, as others. Panic in Egbeda area of Ibadan as residents ran for cover as NURTW members clashed on Sunday. According to The Nation, members of public picked race after deafening sound of gunshots boomed at the weekend. The Nation reports that two factions of the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were alleged to taken to the streets, with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, as they engaged in violent clash. It was learnt that trouble started when a former chairman of the union in the state, Mukaila Lamidi (aka Auxiliary), in company of some of his men and two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps invaded the house of an estranged aide, Musliudeen Muideen, with guns, axes and other dangerous weapons.   Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde said on Sunday that the Governors of the South West Region have agreed to launch a new security architecture in August. Governor Makinde, who was speaking at a special thanksgiving service in honour of his mother, Madam Abigail Makinde at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Yemetu, Ibadan, said that Oyo State will equally launch a state-wide security system before his 100 days in office. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted Governor Makinde as saying that the Governors of South West states have been meeting to find lasting solutions to the security challenges in the region. Oyo State Government has decried the slow pace of ongoing FGN-UBEC/SUBEB projects in all the nooks and crannies of the State. The State Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Adeniran expressing the dissatisfaction during his on-the-spot inspection to the sites of the project at the Ogbomosho zone area of Oyo State. MINISTERIAL: Sunday Dare, Explains How NCC Is Working To Tackle Kidnapping

The nominee from Oyo state and an Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commissions, Sunday Dare, has explained how the commission is working hard to fight kidnapping and other bandits in the country. Mr. Dare stated this while being screened by members of the National Assembly on Thursday in Abuja. When Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy senate president, asked him if the sanction in the NCC act is enough to curb non-registration of SIM cards by telecommunications operators. He said tackling kidnapping is a collective effort. He said the Nigerian communications commission (NCC ) is working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure that proper database is kept to curb crime. Oyo State Government has disbursed Two Hundred and Eighty Million Naira as payment of gratuity for One Hundred (100) retired civil servants for 2012 on Grade Level 1 to 17 in the State. The State Head of Service Mrs Ololade Agboola made this known during the symbolic presentation of cheques to 2012 retired civil servants held at Gratuity Hall, former Ministry of Establishments and Training building Secretariat Ibadan.   She admonished retired civil servants to process their retirement papers on time so that they could collect their gratuity on time, noting that government would only process payment for those that had earlier processed their retirement documents. The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makimde has submitted his list of Commissioner nominees to the Oyo State House of Assembly. The list was submitted to the Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin on Wednesday 24th October 2019 by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka. The Speaker of the Assembly, Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, read the governor’s letter containing the names and request for legislative approval to constitute the state executive at a plenary session on Thursday. Ogundoyin listed the commissioners-nominee to include “Mr  Adeniyi Farinto, Mr Adewuyi Adebisi, Hon Muyiwa Jacob, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, Barr Olasunkanmi Army, Barr Seun Asamu. Tanko Muhammad, the new head of Nigeria’s judiciary, has said that vicious termites destroyed his primary school certificate. Mr Muhammad said the termites invaded his home in Bauchi State in 1998 and devoured all documents inside beyond recovery. “No portion of the certificate was salvaged,” Mr Muhammad said. The claim was contained in an affidavit which the top jurist submitted to the Senate last week to be confirmed as the head of the Supreme Court. The specific affidavit has been circulating on social media since Monday night, but PREMIUM TIMES has obtained additional credentials relating to Mr Muhammad’s confirmation from parliamentary sources. Mr Muhammad swore the affidavit on February 13, 2002, while he was a judge at the Jos Division of the Court of Appeal. He became a Supreme Court judge in 2007. President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Mr Muhammad as the Chief Justice after he controversially removed Walter Onnoghen in the lead up to the 2019 general elections.

Governor Seyi Makinde has forwarded the names of his would-be commissioners to the Oyo State House of Assembly. This is coming close to two months after he was inaugurated. The ‘sealed envelope’ is expected to be open and read by Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, at plenary tomorrow. Gov. Makinde hasn’t been having it easy dealing with nomination especially as it relates to coalition parties. Recall that the African Democratic Congress, ADC; Zenith Labour Party, ZLP; Social Democratic Party, SDP and others had endorsed Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against Oloye Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has begun moves to revive farm settlements established when Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the Premier of the old Western Region. The governor said the nine farm settlements located across the state had ranches, pigsties, ponds, poultry pens apart from the large expanse of land to grow crops. INSECURITY: Police Begin Recruitment of 40,000 Part-Time Constables August

As part of measures to halt the spate of killings and kidnappings in the southern part of the country, the police authorities have concluded plan to scale up the numerical strength of the force by injecting 40,000 part-time constables into the system. As a result, the recruitment of the constables will begin in August, according to findings by Saturday PUNCH. The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, who confirmed the development, explained that at least 50 persons would be recruited from each of the 774 local government areas in the country, adding that the recruitment exercise might kick off in August.
