Oyo NUJ Crisis Set For Determination TODAY
National Industrial Court, NIC, Ibadan will on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 commence hearing in an eligibility suit filed against the candidature of Mr Ademola Babalola seeking to contest as Chairman in the 2019 Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
Some aggrieved members of the State NUJ through their Lawyer had approached the court when the National Secretariat of the Union, against all constitutional issues raised by the financial members in their petition against Mr Babalola cleared him to contest for the Election.
Some of the issues placed for determination by the the plaintiffs before Justice J. D. Peters for determination are; that Mr Babalola who contested for the same chairmanship position three years ago using a different media establishment is no longer a member of the NUJ going by his present place of work.
The plaintiffs also told the court that Babalola has no chapel through which he is contesting, no chapel activities, congress attendance record, no membership registration and financial records with the state competitionouncil of the NUJ as the media establishment he claims working for does not unionise.
It would be recalled that Justice J. D. Peters in an earlier order last month had refused to grant an injunction by the Plaintiffs, Mr Kayode Banjo and Mosope Kehinde, claiming that since the credentials committee that was empowered to conduct the election slated for 18th of December, 2019, had postponed it and therefore ordered that status quo be maintained pending the determination of the suit before the court.
