Oyo Govr Inaugurates Committee To Tackle Natural Disaster, Approves N500Million As Take-Off.


The Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, this Thursday, Inaugurated the  state Steering Committee For Oyo State World Bank Supported Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Program (NEWMAP), chair by the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon Kehinde Ayoola.

The Inauguration ceremony held at the executive chamber of the governor's office, Agodi, Secretariat Ibadan, had in attendance the deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan; Secretary to the state government, Mrs Olubanwo Adeosun; Chief of staff, Bisi Ilaka; honorable Commissioners, amongst other political appointees.

In his speech, governor Makinde said #500million has been approved by the state government to support the program while the Federal Government will also release $5million as counterpart fund.

The governor who noted that the project will last for 18months, charged the committee to judiciously utilise the time frame and put a stop to Flooding, Erosion and other natural disasters in the state.

You will recall that the lawmaker representing Iseyin/Kajola/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Shina Peller, had on July 12, 2019 presented flooding report in Kajola local government area which claimed lives and property to governor Makinde.
