JUST IN: Olopoeyan May Emerge New Oyo NURTW Chairman
Indication has emerged that the Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde may eventually settle for Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan as the new chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
Sources who confided in Opera News also hinted that barring any last-minute changes, Alhaji Olopoeyan stands a good chance of leading the union among other contenders.
They added that apart from been a dicey game, the prospect of winning the game by other competitors seem iffy due to the level of interest that is involved as Olopoeyan surreptitiously expressed his interest; even before the Union was proscribed by Governor Makinde.
The strategic introduction of Olopoeyan, who is a close associate of Governor Seyi Makinde and a revered PDP leader has changed the calculation and permutation of other candidates eyeing the NURTW chairmanship seat in the state; one of the sources added.
No doubt, his loyalty and philanthropic gesture seems to be opening doors for him as people in the corridors of power continue to scheme for his emergence. Though, Olopoeyan is yet to make his interest public, but, in his bid towards actualizing this dream, he has renewed consultation with a view to enjoying a wide appeal, another source disclosed.
Other major contenders eyeing the NURTW number one seat in the state include, former acting Chairmen of the Union, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi popularly known as Auxiliary and Alhaji Abideen Olajide (aka Ejiogbe) respectively.
It would be recalled that Governor Makinde had earlier proscribed the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and also announced the taking over of all parks and garages in the state following pockets of violence skirmishes been reported in different parts of Iwo Road, Challenge, Beere, Ojoo among others with sporadic gunshots heard after the swearing in of the governor.
Continuing, Opera News sources disclosed further that Alhaji Olajide Ejiogbe's chances of becoming the next Chairman of the NURTW in Oyo state are very slim, having tagged him an Ajimobi ally; while Alhaji Lamidi Auxiliary needs to further intensify efforts.
"Majority of the PDP leaders and stakeholders in the state have labelled Auxiliary as a known violent ex -convict. The fear of a return to reign of violence must be appropriately considered. Our leaders had earlier advised the governor on this, and he's ready to compensate Auxiliary but definitely not with the post of NURTW Chairman ", the sources said.
Meanwhile, the former acting Chairman of the Union, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi Auxiliary sounded resolute on the change of power and more interested in taking over the leadership of the Oyo NURTW soon, an ambition the sources described dicey. They revealed that the next Chairman must be popular, integrity personified, exposed, calm, core and loyal PDP member ; and an outstanding personality that would command respect of all and sundry.
