Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Assist Dependants Of Fallen Heroes — Makinde Charges Nigerians
The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde says sacrifices made by the Armed Forces is significant towards the unity and oneness of the country.
He made the remarks after the wreath-laying ceremony and grand finale of the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities, held at Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Governor stressed that the contributions of the fallen heroes to their fathers’ land required appreciation and enjoined people to take care of the dependants of these heroes and those that have been disabled in course of carrying out their service to the nation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Oyo State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Deacon Michael Fajimi called for assistance of both state and federal governments for the dependants of the fallen heroes.
Deacon Fajimi said that such assistance would go a long way in caring for them and make the gallant efforts of the fallen heroes not to be in vein.
Highlight of the occasion was lay of wreaths by Governor Seyi Makinde,Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin,General Officer Commanding of 2 Division Nigeria Army – Major General AB Omozoje, Commander 2Division Garrison, Nigeria Army – Brigadier General OO Soyele, Commander, 671 NAF Detachment Ibadan- Commodore AA Adedoyin, among others.
Release of Pigeons which means peace, firing of rounds volley to symbolize burial party for the fallen heroes was also observed.
