FACT-CHECK: VIDEO: How Oyo Commercial Drivers Alleged PMS, Auxiliary Of Extortion, Noncompliance With Government's Directives On Daily Payment
The Commercial Drivers in Oyo State have alleged the designated officers under the supervision of State's Park Management System(PMS) of extortion and noncompliance with government's directives on daily payment to be charged from them.
It was revealed during an interview with some commercial drivers who spoke on a condition of anonymity in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State recently.
The anonymous drivers who operate within in Ibadan axis of the state lamented that the Park Managers had been extorting them through daily exorbitant charges that have neither tickets nor valid evidence of payment.
They added that instead of daily #200 that Oyo State Government announced that the PMS should be collecting from them with issuance of valid tickets, stressing that the PMS had resulted to collecting minimum of #50 at every junction in Ibadan with no government's official evidence of payment but only inscription on their windscreens with chalks.
The anonymous drivers lamented that it has become usual business for the PMS to collect the alleged illegal dues from them at Olorunsogo, Muslim, Academy, all other parks and strategic junctions in Ibadan both in the morning and afternoon.
They alleged the PMS of noncompliance with government's directives of collecting the official amount aimed at generating an Internal Generated Revenue(IGR) for the state, adding that they charged the commercial drivers with their discretions.
In a related development, some commercial drivers who are shuttling inter states also lamented that someone like Alhaji Lamidi Mukaila Auxiliary is not morally and intellectually sound to man the affairs and tasks related with disciplinary aspect of Park Management System, stressing that his headship of Disciplinary Committee of PMS is equivalence to a square peg in a round hole.
They added that Governor Seyi Makinde was acknowledged working tirelessly to sustain peace and harmony in all ramifications in the state but Auxiliary's aims and objectives are not in consonance with the governor.
In their memory lane, they disclosed that the previous administration led by Alhaji Oyerinde Taofeeq Fele had never inflicted pains on commercial drivers across all parks in the state but reverse had become the case on current administration led by Auxiliary.
While appreciating Governor Seyi Makinde for his vision and mission to reform the NURTW, they said the government had done a wonderful job for reforming the union aimed at reducing thuggery and consequently generating money into government's covers.
They added that the PMS and their disciplinary committee had been working in aberration to terms of reference and conditions that brought them on board.
They enjoined the state government to see to the hardship which they alleged being being orchestrated by Alhaji Lamide Mukaila Auxiliary, adding that government meant well for the commercial drivers but the PMS are thwarting its efforts from achieving the purpose.
