COVID-19: NGO Donates Food Items To Oyo Ministry Of Agric As Govt Calls For More Supports


Farm Konnect, an Ibadan based non governmental organization (NGO) under its Agricultural Social Entrepreneurship Foundation (ASEF) have donated relief materials in form of food items to the Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as its contribution to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Honorable Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle Jacob in company of the Executive Adviser To Oyo State Governor On Agriculture, Dr Debo Akande while receiving the food items on Wednesday at ministry inside the state secretariat, Ibadan, thanked the donor for standing out to be identified with the state government during this challenging time with the food items.


He lauded the gesture and emphasized that it was a sign of empathy from the organization unlike many other organizations that had sought to get something in form of contracts from the state government.

Dr Debo Akande, while speaking earlier on, stated that the items donated will go a long way to ameliorate the challenges imposed on the less privileged by the directive by government for people to stay to stay at home to avoid spread of the dreaded virus.

Dr Akande assured that the state government will continue to work with privileged individuals and private organizations who may wish to support government efforts in providing palliatives for the people to cushion the burden of survival in this challenging time.

The Oyo state coordinator of Farm Konnect, Mr Azeez Oluwole, in his brief address noted that the foundation has followed the turn of event in Oyo state with keen interest since the outbreak of corinavirus in Oyo state.

He said that the NGO which is an arm of Farm Konnect aims at providing supports where necessary and build people’s capacities to become financially self reliant.

He said the relief materials donated to the ministry which contains beans, garri, and salt in each pack is aimed at providing succor to those who are facing tough time with feeding.

He said that his NGO will be pleased to partner with the state government to combat the scourge of the virus and to curtail its spread in the state adding that human resources from his organization will be readily available as volunteers for the government.

The commissioner for Agriculture however urged other privileged individuals and private organizations in the state to support the course of humanity during this trying period of lockdown in the State.

Others present at the donation event are permanent secretary of ministry of agriculture, top officials from Oyo State Agricultural Development Program (OYSADEP), and other directors of departments of the ministry
