EXCLUSIVE: No Official Cure For CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC In The World Now — UCH Head Of Virology Department


The Head of Virology Department,University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan, Professor Georgina Odaibo said there was neither substantial nor official cure for corona virus pandemic across the world now.

Odeibo made the disclosure in her office while fielding questions from the Crew of Naija Today News, stressing that there was no where in the world to substantiate the official cure for the deadly disease that has been ravaging all countries and nations of the world.

Odeibo said the Medical Experts' approaches to the pandemic were born out of their ingenuity, creativity, professionalism and competence to try healing of those that have contracted the pernicious disease.

On UCH as a Diagonistic Centre, Odeibo said Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had officially approved UCH, Ibadan as a diagonistic centre where the blood samples of people suspecting to contract with corona virus would be tested, adding that official testing took place on April 1st and states like Kwara, Osun and Ogun have been sending blood samples of the suspicious people with contraction for testing.

She said nobody could not just walk in for testing, adding that there were criteria for testing which are ranged from cough, fever, difficulty in breathing and contact with a confirmed case among others which she stressed can only be be referred through the State Epidemiology.

While expatiating COVID-19, Odeibo explained CO as Corona, VI as Virus and D as Disease which its outbreak was confirmed in 2019.

She said the disease was not a strange disease as its first outbreak occurred in 1937, stressing that the major symptoms of corona virus are severe respiratory disease and 30 percent of common cold among others.

While asking whether it was China that responsible for the current pandemic, she answered nothing is impossible but added that no substantial information as regards the biological warfare.

On admonition, she advised people to have more enlightenment and sensitization about the contagious disease and should not be insinuating that the virus is big men's disease, stressing that the disease is not selective in term of contraction.

She also enjoined people to follow government's directives on stay at home for safety, adding that they should always wash their hands, maintain social distancing and all other preventive measures relaying on broadcast and print media.
