SECURITY: We Are Not Recruiting To Fight Insurgency — Nig Army Discloses



The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T.Y. Tukur Buratai has disclosed that the proposed 2020 Army recruitment is not aimed at fighting insurgency but rather for the primary responsibility which the army of soldiers is meant for.

The message was contained in a message delivered by the Directorate of Army Recruitment, Resettlement and Research, Brigadier General Emmanuel Henry Akpan while on enlightenment campaign tour in Ibadan on Monday, 15th March, ahead of the subsequent recruitment exercise.
Akpan said he was in Ibadan on instruction of Chief of Army Staff to affirm a statement that 'Army is not recruiting to fight insurgency' but to recruit so as to carry out the constitutional roles expected by the soldiers.

Akpan reiterated that many Nigerians had formed erroneous belief and insinuations towards the subsequent recruitment exercise, stressing that he was on a campaign tour across all geopolitical zones in the country to sensitize and enlighten that the recruitment is not aimed at fighting insurgency.

Akpan said Oyo State and its youths needed to signify interest in the forthcoming recruitment exercise because there are percentage of slots to be ceded to Oyo State, adding that if the state failed to show eagerness in the registration it could be shortchanged.

He said when the recruitment began proper, criteria like courage, mental fitness, physical appearance, health status among others would be considered, adding that the applicants who wished to be integrated as soldiers should possess the itemised prerequisites and as well prepare their minds for special force training which he described would not be business as usual.

Akpan enjoined  all participants at the event to convey the precious message to those were not privileged to be there and they should ensure the message is well delivered for comprehensive digestion.
The Executive Governor of the State, Engr Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede welcomed the Akpan and his entourage to Oyo State.

In his appreciation, Fakorede appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for extending sensitization campaign tour to Oyo State, adding that the message came at a time when the issue of security was paramount to Governor Seyi Makinde.

Fakorede said, the Governor would have been in attendance but unavoidably absent for a crucial flag off of free medical operation in Oke-Ogun axis of the state.
The youths in attendance enjoined Nigeria Army to live by the truth as far as recruitment exercise is concerned, adding that should refrain from depriving Oyo State of the slots  to be entrusted to its jurisdiction.

The programme was attended by the state executive members and youths across the local governments in the state.
