EDO 2020: Oyo Depends On 232 Athletes For 29 Events — Seun Fakorede

As Oyo State is preparing for its full participation in this year's National Sports Festival tagged 'Edo 2020' with dependence on 232 athletes for 29 selected sporting events.

Disclosure was made by Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Comrade Seun Fakorede on Monday, 15th March while receiving the Torch of Unity of the Sports Festival from South- West Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Olufemi Ajao at governor's office, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

In his words, Fakorede said that with the selected athletes' preparation, eagerness, enthusiasm and readiness to appear at the subsequent festival, he believed and confident that they would surpass the feat encountered in the last festival.

As the events are ranged from Chess, Judo,Handball, Beech, Volleyball and Table tennis among others, Fakorede hinted that with the athletes' full spirit of participation at the event beginning on March 22 to April 1st, they would definitely triumph in all games.

He said that the selected 232 man contingent would be drawn from 250 athletes who are different camps preparing for the festival, adding that the participants would have undeniable access to adequate incentives aimed at boosting moral and total concentration.

Fakorede said they had not been able to camp the athletes in a same place as the shortage of rooms responsible for such, stressing that there were no facilities in the stadium to accommodate the beach volley ball team but alternatively relocated to Army Resettlement Centre for practice and preparation ahead of departure.

He said effort was in progress on how the needed facilities would be attained for accommodation of various kinds of sports at once.

He reiterated that the ministry under his supervision has in the past few days sent about 250 athletes to camp, adding that at the end of the day, they would leave for Edo with 232 athletes to participate in 29 sporting events.

Fakorede acknowledged that he had firm belief and assurance in the selected athletes that would leave for Edo and they equally need the prayer and total support of the people of Oyo State, so that their victories in all games would be easily attained.
