JUST IN: Osun Assembly Suspends Sessions, Meetings Over Coronavirus


In a bid to forestall the spread of coronavirus into the state, The State of Osun House of Assembly has announced suspension of plenary sessions, meetings and other legislative works for the next sixteen days.

The announcement was made by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Kunle Akande during the press conference held at the state assembly complex Osogbo.

Akande, who was flanked by the Chairman House Committee on Health, Hon Elizabeth Abioye, said the decision was arrived at during a plenary held early on Monday.

He added that the house took the decision in order to ensure that everyone in the state is safe and in compliance with the directive of the state and federal government that cancelled gathering of over 50 persons.

Akande said although the state has recorded no case of the deadily coronavirus, but all hands must be on deck to tackle its spread into the state.

The house called on every citizen and residents of the state to ensure that they obey instructions from the ministry of health, observe personal hygiene and stay away from any gathering. He added that people should be at red alert to report any suspected case to the authority.

“With confirmed cases of 36 and i death by the NCDC, it is expedient for the assembly to Suspend all gathering to prevent the possible spread of the deadly coronavirus.

“We appeal to our people to observe all precautions of regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, observing social distance and avoiding large gatherings.

W”equally charge the State Government under the able leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to strengthen its resolve in combating this menace and activate necessary emergency public health protocols,” Akande said.
