Ibadan Circular Road: Oyo Lawmakers Decries Abandoned Road Project. Summon ENL Consortium Ltd..


Lawmakers of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday gives their dissatisfactory remark on the abandoned road project, specifically faulting the contractor in charge of the Ibadan Circular Road, ENL Consortium Ltd. and the abandoned Saki Township Road Project.

The House will be summoning the contractor handling the Ibadan Circular road concession project- ENL Consortium Limited, describing it as the best approach towards unraveling the complexities and irregularities surrounding the project.

The Honourable house expressed their impulse while deliberating on a matter of public importance on a press statement issued by ENL Consortium Limited threatening to drag the state government to the Court of Arbitration in London. 

The house recalled that ENL issued a Press Statement threatening Gov. Seyi Makinde to retract his statement that the construction company jerked up a 14 billion project to 67 billion and earmarked 11 billion naira for Bush clearing adding that the project is just 5.5% done.

Hon. Wunmi Oladeji, Hon. Olamide Akinajo, Hon. Adeola Bamidele, Hon. Ayo Fatokun, Hon. Seyi Adisa and other Honourables in  separate reaction, however knocks the construction company adding that Idi-ape to Bashorun route, Gate - Iwo Road route and other road project in its custody are in a 'state that can not be write home about'. 

Hon. Olawunmi Oladeji of Ogbomoso North State Constituency urges the house to summon ENL Consortium Limited to trash out issues, and give detailed information about the money collected so far, and explain when the project will be completed. 

Honourable representing Saki West State Constituency, Hon. Julius Okedoyin in a similar development, laments the deplorable condition of the Saki Township Road Project which has been abandoned since some while ago. 

Okedoyin further explained that the Award of the Contract for rehabilitation of Saki- Ilesha- Ibaruba predates the commencement during the last administration as the sum One Hundred and Eighty Five Million,Two Hundred and Twenty Nine Thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty Seven Naira was budgeted for the project in 2013.

He added that 
"Sadly at the end of 2013, the project was only at fifty percent state of completion and abandoned"

Hon Okedoyin, in addition expressed his concern as the poor state of the road has put the people of Saki West Constituency and Adjoining Constituencies in pains and suffering as the road is close to death trap with potholes and gullies caused erosions which many times has prevented road users from having a smooth and stress free trip to their destination.

In resolution to the deliberated cases, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin ordered the House Committee on Work and Transport, and representatives of the Ministry of Works supposedly led by the Commissioner to pay an oversight visit to the road sites and give the house a comprehensive report by next week.

Ogundoyin further added that necessary measures would be put in place to make contractors resume work on the dualization of the Saki Township Road.

The Ibadan Circular Road, was awarded to ENL Consortium Limited by the immediate past government with the estimated cost of 70 million in 2017, and expected to be completed in May 2020.
