Oyo Lawmaker(Rasak) Urges Makinde to Revive Games And Sports In Secondary Schools.


The lawmaker representing Ibadan South East Constituency 1 in Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Rasak Ademola Abdulahi(Omo Sheu) has urged the Executive Arm of Government in Oyo state to revive games and sports in secondary schools in other to encourage Inter-Schools competitions to discover sports talents and future stars among students.

In a motion presented by the lawmaker, Hon Rasak A Abdulahi Titled " Need To Revive Games And Sports In Secondary Schools In The State"

The house noted that "sporting activities are needed for healthy living. Its also reduce tension, improves the functioning of the brain and ensure total development of the cells in body system. These and other factors must have influenced the inclusion of sporting activities in the curriculum of schools.

The house explained further that "In the good old days, (1970s, 80s, and early 90s) games and sports in activities were organized to encourage students discover their sporting talents and potential in life, some sports stars were discovered while they were students. Due to mismanagement and some anti-social vices like unhealthy rivalry among students and thuggery, these lofty ideas were bastardized and the good intention of government were thereby negated.


"No sane society would deny the younger generation the benefits inherent in sporting activities due to challenges created by lapses on the part of organizers of games and sporting activities I the past.

The house further aware that " the revival of games and sport activities in schools by the administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, will be patterned towards decorum, spirit if sportsmanship, educational and National development.

Also observed that "revival of games and sports in schools is in tandem with the posture of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde that Youths and sports are important in National development.

Also added some need to be address by governor Seyi Makinde administrations for effective games and sporting activities in schools. The need for adequate funding to be provided by Government and other stakeholders.


The house urges the executive arm of government, "ministry of education and youth and sports to create enabling sporting environment for games and sports in schools through provision of sports facilities like football fields, basketball and handball pitches and others in secondary schools in the state.


"To put measures in place to motivate old students associations, interested private investors, community associations and others to partner with Government to revive games and sporting activities in schools in the state.


The house also charges the government through ministry of education and youth and sports to encourage Inter-Schools competitions to discover sports talents and future stars among students.
