GOOD GOVERNANCE: WHEN GSM HITS THE GROUND RUNNING.| By Asiwaju Adekola Adeoye

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinnde, has hit the ground running in his determination to lift the standard of the people of the state. Having been elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on March 9 and sworn-in at 2:20 p.m. on May 29, this year,  GSM has demonstrated that he means business as a governor who will break records as the best governor of Oyo state in the recent history.

I, Asiwaju Adekola Adeoye, the Oyo PDP Youth leader, want to laud GSM, who is the transformation ambassador of our time. Within the few hours of GSM's regime, the rains of succour have been felt across the state. May God help our own very dearly beloved GSM as he determines to put smiles on the faces of both the haves and the have-nots in our state.
Just in his Inaugural Speech, H.E. Engineer (Sir) Seyi Makinde immediately abolished the #3,000 tuition paid by students of public schools in the last administration. The decision was highly applauded even right from the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan to the homes where the broadcast of the event was heard. The parents, especially the indigent ones, were full of hopes that the future spells good for them. Many children have  been out of school due to inability to pay, even, such meagre amount.

Also commendable is the decision of GSM to donate his salary to Teachers Pension Board in order to reduce the piles of arrears that the government of Abiola Ajimobi owed and still owes. This is unprecedented and the good people of Oyo state will  not forget this gesture of immense contribution to the state. In the same vein, I still want to commend the people’s Executive Governor on the payment of May salary with a view to making people celebrate this year’s Ramadan Festival with utmost joy and happiness. What a good beginning GSM has! We are happy and want to say that more and more of this from his table of good governance.

Furthermore, I want to stress that GSM is a lover of peace and tranquillity. As usual, a period of transition like this always witnesses security breach, especially the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union (NURTWU). Thank God that GSM was so wise to proscribe the union to avoid break down of law and order in our cities and towns. If  otherwise, the union members and leaders would have been drumming wars. Oyo state residents should rest assured that the reign of peace in the state is not negotiable.

It is worthy of note that the best brains will be in the GSM-led administration. GSM, the husband of Her Excellency, Engr (Mrs) Tumuno Ominini Makinde, has made his first appointee and it is good to say that  Chief Lukman Oyebisi Ilaka who was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the Governor is a core technocrat cum politician. Other crop of appointments which will be a mix of both the technocrats and the politicians will help to transform Oyo state to the peak in the country.

On a final note, I enjoin the residents and citizens of Oyo state to join GSM, the transformation ambassador, in his determination to develop the state. The same way we can not clap with one hand, I will like to appeal to people of the state to be partners of GSM in prayers and supports accordingly.

 A total of 14,406 poorest of the poor households across 19 local government areas of Oyo State have been captured to receive N7,500 every month under the World Bank Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO). Makinde To Appoint Adviser On Labour Matters, Negotiate Minimum Wage With Workers

The Oyo State governor-elect, Engr Seyi Makinde has congratulated the Nigerian Labour Congress in Oyo State on this year’s Labour Day and urged them to protect the interest of their members. In a release signed by his spokesperson, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Makinde said it is pertinent for the labour union and government to engage in constant dialogue in a very transparent and sincere manner to move the state forward at the advent of new administration in the state. He further asked them to discourage members from acts of collusion with desperate politicians who are taking advantage of the transitional period in the state. He reassured the union that his administration will be labour friendly and involve them in the day to day running of the administration by creating the office of a Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
