Gov. Makinde Warns Against Indiscriminate Disposal Of Waste



 Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde Monday warned that any resident found dumping refuse indiscriminately in the state will be prosecuted.

The state’s Head of Service, Mrs. Ololade Agboola while speaking during a meeting with stakeholders on ways to improve on environmental sanitation, said the meeting was directed by the state governor, Seyi Makinde who had directed that an ad-hoc committee should be put in place on sanitation issue in Ibadan and other major cities in the state.

According to her, the governor noted that indiscriminate dumping of refuse has taken over in the state and initial policies by the former administration is yielding little or no impact, a reason the committee was set up.

“He has therefore directed that his administration has issued a zero tolerance to sewage dumping on the road or highway in the state and anybody caught dumping refuse on main road or highways will be sanctioned.

“He also directed that people should patronise approved contractors for refuse collection saying that tribunal on environmental sanitation adherence will be set up to control people.

“West African Energy has not been disengaged from refuse management and disposal. We have had new local contractors whose job are on the streets. The West African Energy is also given duty to transform the wastes to wealth through recycling and generation of energy from the wastes.’’

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of West African Energy, Mrs. Lolade Oresanya thanked the state government for making efforts in making the state cleaner yield results, calling for compliance of people in the state towards ensuring that the state is cleaner.

”We are presently working with companies especially the recycling companies as a way to generate wealth and generate energy from the wastes in the state, ” she said.

Mrs. Oresanya said people misconstrued the company over dissatisfaction in services they render, saying as part of effort to improve on their services, the ad-hoc committee had recommended the involvement of local government authorities in the scheme of things to yield better result.
