Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Senator Abiola Ajimobi on Friday extolled the virtues of the late Dr Olalekan Are during a burial service held at the St. David Cathedral Church, Kudeti in Ibadan. The deceased, a renowned agronomist and a former Director with the Punch Newspapers, died on Jan. 18 at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The Osun State Traditional Rulers’ Council has suspended the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, for six months. The monarchs reached the decision on Friday at an emergency meeting held at Osun State Government Secretariat, Abere. Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, presided over the meeting. Oluwo was suspended over a physical attack on the Agbowu of Ogbagba, Oba Dhikirulahi Olaniran. His action was referred to as despicable and uncharacterised as to be done by a monarch. Following his action by beating up his fellow monarchs, the residence of the nearby communities took to the streets to demonstrate their anger and frustration about his actions. They matched to the Osun government house, which the state government promised to look into, perhaps which preceded to this action of the traditional rulers to suspend him.

We are making progress, Govt counsel says We’ll make our position known—ALGON The Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, the state capital, on Friday, adjourned till March 20, 2020, a suit filed by the Oyo State Government seeking to restrain the sacked chairmen of local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) from forcefully taking over the councils  in the state. The court, presided by Justice Mashood Abass, adjourned the matter to further allow the parties in the crisis to pursue the option of amicable settlement. The option of amicable settlement was kick-started following an application for out-of-court settlement filed on February 5, 2020. A judge of the National Industrial Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, Justice J. D. Peters has asked the counsel to Ademola Babalola, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Toyese Owoade of Afe Babalola (Emmanuel Chamber) to write the president of the court for a transfer of the ongoing case before him. Owoade, counsel to Babalola the 8th defendant, had on Tuesday informed the court of four different applications which he filed on behalf of his client. The Oyo State Government has disclosed its readiness to introduce an identification system for commercial motorcyclists operating within the state in order to check crimes and the influx of bad elements into the state. This was as the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, ordered the immediate reduction of the daily levy to be paid by commercial cyclists from N200 to N100 per day.
