AGAIN: 8 Injured As Another Building Collapses In Ibadan

A two-storey building under construction on Tuesday collapsed in Ibadan, injuring eight persons. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the building located on Eleyele road in Jericho area of Ibadan collapsed at about 4.pm. Speaking with NAN, one of the bricklayers at the site, Mr Kazeem Adebayo, said concrete casting on a portion of the building had started when it gave way. Adebayo said that a portion of the building began to give way at about 3.30 pm and the attention of the site engineer was drawn to the development. He alleged that the engineer ordered them to continue work only for the building to collapse shortly afterwards, injuring those working close to the collapsed portion. An official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dada Abimbola, told NAN that nobody died in the incident while the injured had been taken to Jericho Specialist Hospital for treatment. BREAKING: Senate passes 2019 Budget

The Nigerian Senate has passed the 2019 Appropriation Bill, following the presentation of the bill by the Senate Committee on Appropriation. The chairman of the Committee, Danjuma Goje, announced an increase in the budget to 8.91 trillion - N10 billion be provided to assist victims of Zamfara State crises and should be added to the total figures. The Senate had, last week, shifted the passage of the 2019 Appropriation Bill as a result of the absence of the Chairman, Senate Appropriations Committee, Danjuma Goje and his deputy, Sonny Ogbuoji, to comment on the documents. Besides, the non-availability of copies on the details of the budget proposal to senators also contributed to the shift in date. Source  News Express

Oyo state house of Assembly on Tuesday nullified the purported suspension of the Executive Chairman, Irepo Local Government Area, Mr Asifu Adediran-Sulaiman and his vice, Mrs Ojedele Victoria for breaching the law guiding the process. The Assembly which described the suspension process as inconclusive also noted that pending the time the House Committee on local government Affairs investigates and reports back to it, the suspended chairman and his vice remains the constitutionally recognized leaders of the council and must be allowed to perform their duties. The council bosses were last week suspended by the council lawmakers who accused him of gross misconduct, high-handedness and lack of respect for party supremacy. The suspension was conveyed in an April 25 letter detailing the allegations against the chairman for which he was allegedly found guilty. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not happy as representatives of the Oyo state government, Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), on Monday, met over the implementation of the new minimum wage of N30,000 in the State, resolving to await the transmission of the new minimum wage scale from the Head of Service of the Federation for effective implementation. At the meeting held at state Secretariat, Ibadan, the government team led by the Secretary to the state government, Mr Olalekan Alli, expressed positivity about the implementation of the new wage in the state, but that it only awaited a formal, enabling directive from the Head of Service of the federation to proceed. The group also disagreed with the party chairmen at the local government level that the party lost the last election in the state as a result of overconfidence and electoral fraud. Share Chris Ngige, minister of labour, says being a medical doctor since 1979 puts him in a position to know the situation of things in the health sector. In a statement issued by Nwachukwu Obidiwe, his spokesman, Ngige said the truth hurts but it must be told. He also denied making the statement on medical doctors which sparked off reactions on Wednesday. When he appeared on a Channels TV programme on Wednesday, the minister said he was “not worried” that doctors were leaving the country in droves because the country has more than enough. “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus.
