Until Makinde Lifts BAN, No NURTW Election in Oyo State - Committee Chairman

The Chairman, harmonisation committee for the Oyo state branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Kayode Agbeyangi, has said that no date has been fixed for election into the executive council of the union.

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, he noted that election may only come after the state government might have lifted the ban placed on the activities of the union, though the aggrieved members have agreed to work together for the betterment of the union.

Agbeyangi, while reacting to news being circulated particularly on social media that a date for election had been fixed, warned those behind it to desist from such act capable of misleading the general public and further create unnecessary tension among NURTW members.

He stressed that before the committee could ponder on organising an election, it must have submitted its report to the leadership of the national body of the union, which will now meet with the state government for a proper briefing to determine the line of action.

Makinde To Appoint Adviser On Labour Matters, Negotiate Minimum Wage With Workers

The Oyo State governor-elect, Engr Seyi Makinde has congratulated the Nigerian Labour Congress in Oyo State on this year’s Labour Day and urged them to protect the interest of their members. In a release signed by his spokesperson, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Makinde said it is pertinent for the labour union and government to engage in constant dialogue in a very transparent and sincere manner to move the state forward at the advent of new administration in the state. He further asked them to discourage members from acts of collusion with desperate politicians who are taking advantage of the transitional period in the state. He reassured the union that his administration will be labour friendly and involve them in the day to day running of the administration by creating the office of a Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
