Oyo Deputy Speaker Appeals to The Executives to Fix Ona-Ara Road.
The lawmaker representing Ona Ara state constituency and the deputy speaker of Oyo State house of assembly, Hon Abiodun M Fadeyi has appealed to Oyo state government executives to as a matter of urgency, fix the bad road of GBAREMU/ODO-OMI bridge Ona Ara linking to Egbeda Local Government.
Fadeyi made this appeal while inspecting Gbaremu, Odo-Omi bridge in Ona Ara LG yesterday.
While speaking with naijatodaynews.blogspot.com during the inspection, Hon. Fadeji explained that the deteriorating state of the roads in his constituency had begun to have negative effects on the economic activities of the local government area, adding that valuable economic hours were being wasted on the roads daily.
The Deputy Speaker further said that his people had been clamouring and agitating for good roads since years back but no one had yielded to their request. He noted that Gbaremu – Odo-Omi bridge both shared with two local governments Egbeda and Ona Ara, required immediate intervention of governor Seyi Makinde because of the havoc the already collapsed portion of the busy road had started creating.
In his submission, Hon Fadeyi as follows opined: "I want to appeal to the state government executives to come to our aid in Ona Ara Local Government, because the overflow of the river especially in the raining season like this poses a great threat to the road users in our area. Besides, the bridge is a link between two local governments. You can imagine if the bridge is collapsed there won't be free movement for both Egbed and Ona ara constituency people as this bridge has been a major concern for the state government for some time but I need to further call the attention of the state government, especially ministry of Works and Environment, to please come to our rescue in Ona Ara LG on this River called(Odo-Onigbese).
"We are also appealing to the Messiah of our time, Engr Seyi Makinde to come to our aid. Last week at the floor of the honourable house of Assembly, I moved a motion on this particular river called Odo-Onigbese, which had claimed lives of over five(5) people due to over flow of rivers in that area"
The lawmaker in furtherance assured people of his constituency of good representation at the State assembly.
Fadeyi, who noted that the present administration in the state had started well, called also on the good people of Oyo State to give the governor maximum support so that he can make headway in his bid to make Oyo State better.
Speaking at the inspection, the former chairman of Ona Ara local government, Hon Akeem Oke stated that the road was awarded to one construction company during Governor Lam Adesina led administration but wasn't done then, but when Sen Ladoja emerged as governor, I approached him, he constructed the road from Iyana-Hope to IGEM Airport but we noticed that during the raining season, the water will overflow the bridge because the water that is coming from Gbagi and other close communities is too much that is why the Gbaremu bridge was named (Odo Onigbese) because it always claims lives, goods and properties of the masses.
In his own remark, the chairman of People's Democratic Party PDP in Ona Ara local government, Hon Isaiah Mosobalaje Bakare emphatically stated that the river had claimed lives of over Five(5) people. The bridge has caused many casualties, calamity and damages for the past years. Fortunately, Engr Seyi Makinde is from this local government and he had been in this area too. We appeal to the governor to expedite action and give immediate relief to the people by providing emergency and urgent construction of the bridge, so that people can have movement opportunity because the road is the only route leading to the community.
You would recall that naijatodaynews.blogspot.com has reports about the motion ably moved by the deputy speaker of the Oyo state house of assembly, Hon Abiodun M Fadeyi at the floor of the State house of Assembly in a matter of urgent public importance, said properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the downpour experienced recently in the state, and reported the Odo-Onigbese River in Ona-Ara Local government area claimed to have washed away over 5 people due to over flow of rivers in the area.
And the house, through the Rt Hon Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin later directed both the ministry of environment and ministry of lands, housing and urban development to as matter of urgency look into flood related issues across the state and ensure that a lasting solution to it is procured.
