JUST IN: Insecurity, As Thieves Invade Oyo Assembly, Cart Away Over N500,000 Worth Electrical Cables For The 3rd Time

The security lapses in and around the Oyo State House of Assembly premises seems to have worsen as thieves invaded the complex and carted away electrical cables worth over 500,000 naira for the third time.

The electrical-power cables are said to be used to transmit electricity from the overhead line conductors into the State hallow chamber, assembly complex and State lawmakers' offices.

This medium authoritatively gathered that this unfortunate incident which occurred early hours of Thursday, has been slowing down legislative activities in the pace setter State.

A close source at the assembly complex, who spoke under the condition of anonymity said that stealing of electrical cables and some other properties is no longer a new thing in Oyo State House of Assembly complex.

According to him, electrical cables, fans, computers and other common items often miss within the complex without trace or anyone taking responsibility of the actions and inactions.

The source said, “I can recall this to be the third time cables were stolen over night. Though, it is the first time with the nineth assembly, but I remembered it happened twice during the eighth assembly and they spent close to one million naira to fix the damages.

“The unfortunate thing is despite the investigation so far about it. The culprit has not been apprehended.  This is why it continues."

Another source also added that during that eight Assembly, about 3 brain boxes of vehicles belonging to the House were stolen overnight.

It was gathered that the Oyo Assembly has not hold any plenary session since the lawmakers returned from their 4-day retreat on Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation, Investment Promotion Agency and Anti Corruption Agency Bills 2019, held at Ilaji Farms, Ona Ara LG.

Further checks by insideoyo.com revealed that aside the presence of police officers monitoring the complex, the complex has members of staff who are security guards. Some of these security guards are scheduled to work overnight.

Meanwhile, efforts to get the management of the Oyo House of Assembly to speak on the matter were futile.

The Information Officer, Mrs Ojoawo declined comment and referred News Medium to the Clerk, Mrs Foluke Oyediran of the House.

Not less than five calls to the Clerk were unsuccessful and text message not delivered as at the time of filing this report.
