PUBLIC HEARING: Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Bill is Not Being Targeted at Anybody, But to Promote Peace Among Residents, Tribes in Oyo State -- Oyo Speaker(Ogundoyin)


The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has disclosed that, the rising violent clashes between Fulani herders and farmers has continued to dominate public discourse and given policy makers course for concern hence the need to bring stakeholders together for a practicable solution.

Hon Ogundoyin stated this while speaking at the public hearing at House of Chiefs, Oyo state house of Assembly, Ibadan, on a Bill Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Bill 2019. He noted that the open rearing and grazing regulation bill,2019 is not being targeted at any group or set of people but rather it seeks to  promote peace among residents and different tribes in Oyo state.

He maintained that the Ninth Oyo State House of Assembly through the bill was only seeking legal framework to address the issue of open rearing and grazing as well as encourage and protect the economic activities of others who are into agricultural related ventures and the residents.

The sitting afforded the various groups and agenciesi the opportunity of presenting their positions on the Open rearing and grazing regulation bill,2019 before the Oyo Assembly's.

The Special Adviser to the Oyo state Governor on Security matters, Mr. Fatai Owoseni while addressing the public hearing called on stakeholders to support the Oyo state house of Assembly and see to the workability of the bill.

He warned all concerned to avoid making inciting remarks on the issue adding that it is a security matter which shouting be treated with all seriousness it deserves..

In a remark, the Aseyin of Iseyinland,Oba Abdul Ganiyu Salaudeen Ologunebi,Ajinese the first and other traditional rulers in attendance agreed that grazing and rearing of cattle should be regularised while they also stressed the essence and importance of ranches as practised in developed countries.

They condemned in strong terms the carrying of AK 47 rifles around by Fulani herders especially some of them who are minors.

The bill which has passed through second reading at the house of Assembly was jointly sponsored by the Speaker Oyo state house of Assembly ,Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, the deputy Speaker,Hon Abiodun Fadeyi, the Majority Leader, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin and the minority Leader, Hon Asimiyu Alarape.

About 20 memoranda were submitted.
