Oyo Govt to Construct Five Model Schools Across Three Senatorial Districts

Oyo State Government has revealed that it would construct five new Model schools across the three senatorial districts, saying this is in line with the 2018 intervention project in conjunction with Federal Government-Universal Basic Education Board.   This was stated today by the Chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OyoSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran during a prequalification exercise for the 2018 FGN-UBEC/OYOSUBEB intervention projects held in Ibadan.   He added that the projects would be awarded to qualified contractors among the 76 applicants who applied for the pre-qualification exercise.   The Chairman, further said the beneficiary schools would be Methodist Primary School, Bodija, in Ibadan North Local Government Area; St. Paul's Primary school, Yanbule, in Ibadan North East Local Government Area.   Others are Methodist Primary School, Arowomole, Ogbomosho South; Community Primary School, Airport, Ona-Ara LGA and Muslim Grammar (Jnr)

Makinde Should Declare His Security Vote and Stop Deceiving The Masses. Oyo SPN

One of the opposition parties in Oyo State, the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) has asked the State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde to declare the security vote he receives so far instead of deceiving the masses of remitting his salaries to pensioner’s account. It could be recalled that Makinde declared N48 billion assets three months ago. The SPN said knowing what the governor earns as security vote would further show his seriousness to engender transparency and accountability in government. Speaking at a press briefing to evaluate Governor Makinde’s 100 days in office, the State secretary of the SPN, Ayodeji Adigun, said the governor should remove the veil covering security votes in Nigeria and submit it for proper democratic management and control. Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of a seasoned Economist from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Dr. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, as his Chief Economic Adviser. The Governor, in a statement endorsed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, confirmed that Babatunde’s appointment takes immediate effect. Governor Makinde, who had announced a four-point developmental agenda for Oyo State, had named the expansion of the state’s economy as one the key pillars. He wished the newly-appointed Economic Adviser success in the endeavour to join him make a good turnaround in the economic situation of Oyo State. The statement indicated that Dr. Babatunde, who was a recipient of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doctoral Internship Visiting Scholar Support Award, Geneva, Switzerland, in September 2005, was educated at the Nigerian Premier University, the University of Ibadan, where he graduated with a B.Sc Economics degree.

Governor on Tuesday has terminated the appointment of his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor. The Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, in a WhatsApp message to our reporter, said he took the decision because the CPS misrepresented him and South East Governors in a statement he issued on the Controversial National Livestock Transformation Programme. The Governor described the statement by Uzor as highly embarrassing and regrettable. He further noted that the position of the CPS was contrary to his on the issue. Oyo Govt Exempts Churches, Mosques From Taxes, Levies Because They Are Not Making Profit

The Oyo state government on Sunday declared that places of worship located in the state are exempted from paying levies and taxes. Rev. Idowu Ogedengbe, the Executive Assistant to the state governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed this at the thanksgiving mass to celebrate the 70th year birthday of the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Abegunrin held at the Church of Ascension, Bodija, Ibadan at the weekend. He stated that any places of worship that do businesses such as establishing of schools, universities, hospitals, bakeries, and so on must pay tax to the government since it was a profit-making venture. While delivering Governor Makinde’s message at the service, Rev. Ogedengbe said the government seeks the support of the church in ensuring that everybody pays tax. The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly and FRSC Corp Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi will lead other important personalities, captains of industry and relevant stakeholders to the venue of the National Rescue Summit scheduled to hold in Ibadan on September 26 th , 2019. The summit, put together by the Road Accident Information & Rescue Organization, RAIRO, focuses on addressing carnage on the roads and safety consciousness among road users in the country. House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ibadan has upheld the elections of two legislators of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Oyo State Assembly.  According to reports, the three-man panel of justices Tribunal led by D. M. Igyuse upheld the elections of Honorable Olasunkanmi Babalola (Egbeda State Constituency) and Akeem Adeshina (Iwajowa State Constituency). The legislators were dragged before the Tribunal by the opposition part- All Progressives Congress (APC) opponents in the last general election to challenge their victory. Babalola, who is the Deputy Majority leader of the Oyo Assembly, was challenged by Mr Olalekan Usman, while Adeshina was also dragged before Tribunal by Mr Johnson Eroyalesun.  The Tribunal on Monday dismissed the separate petitions on account that the petitioners could neither prove nor establish their claims of irregularities in the election.

Osun Govt Sacks 422 Workers Over Certificate Forgery

Government of the State of Osun has approved the outright dismissal of 422 civil servants involved in acts that breach the service’s rules and regulations, notably, certificate forgery. A statement signed by the state Head of Service, Festus O. Oyebade on Friday, September 13th disclosed that the state governor, Gboyega Oyetola has approved that civil servants who violate the rules of engagement should be sacked from the service. The government had between 2013 and 2015 engaged a private organisation to conduct a staff audit during which different levels of infractions were discovered. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has been asked to probe the various allegations of corrupt practices leveled against the immediate past Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi, by his successor, Seyi Makinde. Debo Adeniran, Executive Chairman, CACOL, made the call in a letter addressed to the ICPC chairman, dated Saturday September 14, 2019. CACOL recalled that Makinde had revealed how Ajimobi carted away most of the Government-owned vehicles. “These vehicles were illegally taken away and were not paid for by those involved. Also, many of the vehicles were never bought by officials of the past administration. Former Minister of Women Affairs, Jummai Alhassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba, has decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from United Democratic party (UDP). Alhassan, who contested the governorship election on the platform of UDP during the 2019 general elections in Taraba State, made the decision during a stakeholders meeting of UDP in Jalingo, Daily Trust reports. Giving her reason, Alhassan said her defection to PDP was based on the outcome of the opinion poll during stakeholders meeting. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Friday raised the alarm over alleged delay by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to release the record of its judgment to enable the party and its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to file an appeal at the Supreme Court. It also believed that the alleged delay was a calculated attempt to frustrate its plan to appeal at the Supreme Court. PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan made this allegation against the tribunal in a statement on Friday.
